Our Team
No matter what your construction needs are, we have roughly 100 full-time staff members that are here to make your project run smoothly from start to finish. Our staff is dedicated, experienced, and professional.
Our current Staff consists of:
10 Project Managers – averaging nearly 30 years of construction management experience. All of our Project Managers are team players with proven track records. They represent the first line of contact with the clients, and our philosophy is to assign one project manager as the principal contact for each owner/client.
11 Accounting, Support & Administrative Personnel: Project Managers are aided and supported by experienced Project Engineers, Project Manager Assistants, and accounting personnel to produce and manage project documents. Teaming with support staff ensures that the project managers have a full measure of company resources to apply to the projects under their management.
75 Field Craftsmen. These are the skilled craftsmen and technicians in the various disciplines that comprise our construction teams and service delivery corps.

Steve Strong, CEO; 36 years experience (27 years at Sun)
Steve has 36 years experience in the construction industry. In 1985 Steve became the owner of Sun Construction & Facility Services, Inc. As CEO, he provides long range planning and maintains key relationships with clients. Steve’s philosophy is that the most successful construction projects are those that fulfill the client’s needs. |

Andy Welch, President; 13 years experience (12 years at Sun)
Andy brings a wide array of industry experience to manage the overall functions of the business. His background includes project and construction management both at Sun and in his roles as an executive and owner of other property management and development companies. Andy is responsible for Sun’s operation and management oversight. Some of the areas Andy oversees are policy implementation, financial management, strategic planning, and manager development. |

Bill Prout, Vice President/General Manager; 45 years experience (12 years at Sun)
Bill has been involved with project management and controls for his entire career since receiving a degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University. His project experience ranges from small jobs for standing order clients to very large projects valued to $250 million. Bill assists in the day-to-day operation of Sun Construction, while maintaining project manager responsibilities on specific projects. Additionally, Bill adds strength and experience to our pre-construction services where he provides guidance in budget estimating, preliminary scheduling, constructability reviews, value engineering, and guaranteed maximum price development for design-build projects. |

Tim Strong, Executive Vice President; 25 years experience (20 years at Sun)
Tim’s responsibilities through the years with the company have grown and changed as the needs have arisen. Tim’s experience with mid to high-level tenant finish jobs has brought back many valued customers. He understands the needs of value and quality and strives for the customers input on a continual basis in order to achieve the final goal. Communication is a strong skill Tim possesses and he beliefs that communication is the key to a successful project. Tim’s Project Manager experience allows him to work on multiple projects ranging from high-tech facilities maintenance; pharmaceutical offices and labs; data centers; higher education campus projects; ground-up construction; design-build projects and tenant finish build-outs. |

Scott Solem, Vice President of Business Development;
Scott has 33 years of experience in the construction industry and has spent 11 of those years with Sun Construction. Scott started his construction career as a carpenter, worked his way up to a Project Manager, and has recently been promoted to Vice President of Business Development for Sun Construction. He has dedicated a large part of his career to serving the high-tech sector and clients with multi-building campuses. Scott’s project portfolio also consists of a variety of projects ranging from renovations to new construction. Scott gained invaluable experience as Project Administrator with Storage Technology, which affords him the ability to truly understand both sides of the Owner/General Contractor relationship and helps Sun Construction establish and meet the client’s expectations. |

Mark McMahon, Project Manager; 33 years experience (24 years at Sun)
Mark started as a carpenter for Sun Construction in 1987. In 1992 he became a superintendant and continued to perform in this role until 1999 at which time he became the project manager for Sun Construction’s commercial cabinet shop. In 2005 he took on the duties of general contracting project management. Mark’s main client focus has been to Amgen, Inc. but he also works with the City of Boulder and the City of Longmont. |

Dennis Haney, Project Manager; 41 years experience (13 years at Sun)
Dennis has served as a senior landscape architect and project manager at the University of Colorado, Boulder campus for 20 years. He has prior work experience including 3 years in private practice and 2 years in the Peace Corps. Dennis has gained a wide variety of experience in building construction, renovation, planning, budgeting, specification writing, cost estimating, project management, and landscape/irrigation design and construction. His experience, proven organizational skills, and effectiveness contribute significantly to the success of his projects. |

Joel Johnson, Project Manager; 34 years experience (17 years at Sun)
Before taking a project manager position, Joel held a project superintendent position with Sun Construction. His main clients include Lexmark and the IBM facility in Boulder. Joel has been involved in all phases of construction, including completing a $2 million chiller building addition. |

Tom Gilliland, Project Manager; 42 years experience (12 years at Sun)
Tom comes to Sun Construction from the Project Control Group of Coors Brewing Company where he served as a project estimator for 15 years. He has estimated projects valued up to $20 million, with expertise in structural and mechanical construction. Tom is currently responsible for work throughout the northern metropolitan Denver area with projects ranging from renovations and additions to new facilities. |

Jim Turner, Project Manager; 34 years experience (9 years at Sun)
Before taking over the Sun Construction cabinet shop in 2006, Jim had been a field supervisor for Sun Construction. Jim has been involved in the building and construction trades since 1976, and has owned his own building and maintenance company since 1994. Jim pays special attention to the finer details and ensures the job gets done in a cost efficient manner and the highest quality. |

Dave Armstrong, Project Manager; 33 years experience (1 year at Sun)
Dave has his bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois. He has experience in all phases of construction projects with design-build project design, estimating, and general project management. Dave was the lead project manager for a wide range of projects including, but not limited to: industrial, commercial, tenant improvement, schools, hospital, medical office buildings, churches, hospitality, apartments/condominiums, and residential.

Mark has 20 years of construction industry experience and has worked as part of the Sun Construction team for the last 14 years both in the field as a Supervisor and in the office as Associated Project Manager. |

John Eddy, Project Engineer; 6 years experience (New at Sun)
John began his construction career working as an assistant contract administrator for an architectural firm working on the St. Francis Hospital O'Connell Tower in 2007. John graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with at Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management Technology in 2009 with Magna Cum Laude distinction. John worked as a field engineer at the Pentagon Wedge 4 Renovation project and FORSCOM/USARC Combined Headquarters at Fort Bragg. He also worked as a residential carpenter/home builder in Northern Colorado. John now works with the project managers at Sun Construction to keep our projects running on-time and within budget, by assisting them with the day-to-day operations of our projects. |

Henry Man, Project Engineer; 6 years experience (6 years at Sun)
Henry started with Sun Construction in 2005 as an apprentice. The next year he became the lead carpenter at Amgen Pharmaceuticals, at both the Longmont and Boulder sites, where the majority of his experience involved construction within a clean room environment. In 2011 Henry was promoted to Project Engineer and now supports one of our Project Managers by assisting him with the day-to-day operations of his projects. |

Andrea Virtue – Reception; 2 years experience (2 years at Sun)
Andrea is the first person to greet all who come into our office. She aides all of our Project Managers and Accounting Department to ensure that all project needs are met.

Pam Belcamino – Treasurer/Secretary/Accounts Payable; 35 years experience (18 years at Sun)
Prior to working at Sun Construction, Pam was a full-charge bookkeeper for several private companies. At Sun, she is our Accounts Payable Specialist. She is responsible for the data that is entered into our Accounts Payable system, reconciling and payment to our vendors and making sure our job cost balances with the General Ledger. She is also responsible for paying the sales tax on all invoices for the multiple municipalities which requires acute knowledge of all local tax jurisdictions. She is in charge of all the Contractor Licenses, Sales Tax Licenses and the constant update of the Vendor Certificates of Insurance.

Jenny Welch – Accounting Department Assistant; 13 years experience (13 years at Sun)
Jenny started her career at Sun Construction as a Project Manager Assistant. For the past 8 years she has held the title of Accounting Department Assistant, where she assists Pam, Terri, and Ann with all of the accounting procedures.

Ann Harrington – Controller; 26 years experience (5 years at Sun)
Before joining Sun Construction Ann gained experience working in various government and private organizations. She graduated from Regis University with a BS in Accounting with the distinction of Cum Laude. At Sun, Ann is responsible for keeping our company on track and in compliance. She oversees and directs payroll, the monthly general ledger/balancing, the financial statements, and yearly audits.

Terri Niesent – Accounts Receivable; 16 years experience (10 years at Sun)
Terri is responsible for all A/R duties associated with our projects – this includes: monthly billings, project set-up, contract administration, collections & billings questions from our customers or subcontractors. Terri is the bridge between our customers and our project management team.

Vanessa Hyre – Project Support Manager; 15 years experience (Joined Sun in 2011)
Vanessa is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of our project teams and refining those processes. She also supports Sun's growth opportunities as marketing coordinator and photographer. Vanessa worked as Office Manager, onsite IT support, Procedure Development, and Marketing Coordinator for another local General Contractor for 14 years.

JoAnn Rosebrock - Project Manager Assistant; 18 years experience (Joined Sun in 2011)
JoAnn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from Bowling Green State University in Ohio with Cum Laude distinction. JoAnn relocated to Colorado in 1995 and has since worked with a number of local companies such as Sun Microsystems, Facility Solutions, and BGL Facility Consultants as a Facilities Planner, Project Manager and Designer. At Sun she assists all of our Project Managers with maintaining the day-to-day functions of projects and will be helping with our MAC services.

Katy Risinger, Project Manager Assistant; 20 Years Experience (New to Sun)
Katy brings an AA degree in Business and Finance. Her experience includes working in project management with the National Renewable Energy Lab, Jefferson County and non-profits. She has 20 years experience in financial administration. At Sun she assists our Project Managers with maintaining the day-to-day functions of projects. |
